Finding Information:

The first step in a research project is deciding on a topic.  After you have decided on a subject, the next step is to find information. Your teacher will probably want you to find a number of different resources. I have included links to help you find these different sources.

Where to Look:

  • Reference Section
    • The reference section includes encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, almanacs, and collections of biographies
  • Nonfiction Books
    • Nonfiction books are books of FACTS that are usually on one subject. Unlike reference books, nonfiction books can be checked out of the library. Look in our Catalog.
  • Journal Articles
    • These are articles printed in Journals. Journals are like magazines except they are written by experts in different subject areas. Most of the articles are read and checked. Look in our Databases
  • Websites
    • Do NOT use Wikipedia. Google may be helpful for finding websites, but be sure to read the Evaluating Information page before you use information taken from a website. Also view our list of websites.
